Peace & quiet
A village pace, not a tourist strip. Wake to birdsong, read on the balcony, walk the orchard lanes. Real rest is the whole point.
Away from the traffic, the crowds and the noise, Gulmit is where Hunza slows down. Glaciers, orchards and old Wakhi villages, with the most famous sights of Gojal just minutes away.
In peak season, the busy stops of Hunza fill with tour buses, traffic and crowded bazaars. Drive a little further up the Karakoram Highway and the noise falls away. In Gulmit, the loudest sounds are glacier streams, poplar leaves and the call of a neighbour across the orchard.
There are no jams to sit in and no queues for the view. Mornings are slow, the air is clean and thin, and at night the sky is dark enough to see the Milky Way. It is the Hunza people come looking for, before they find the crowds.

Gojal's old capital has a little of everything that makes Upper Hunza special, and none of the rush.
A village pace, not a tourist strip. Wake to birdsong, read on the balcony, walk the orchard lanes. Real rest is the whole point.
Passu Cones, Hussaini Bridge, Attabad Lake and Borith Lake are all around 20 minutes away. See the highlights by day, come home to calm.
The jagged spires of the Passu Cones, glaciers spilling down the valley walls and snow peaks that glow pink at sunset.
Gulmit is the cultural home of Gojal's Wakhi people, with traditional homes, hand-woven carpets and a warmth you feel from the first cup of tea.
Around 2,500 metres up, the air is crisp and the nights are clear. Far from city light, the stars feel close enough to touch.
Apricot and cherry blossom in spring, green lawns in summer, gold poplars in autumn and snow in winter. Every visit looks different.
